MUSCAT: A neighbourhood development project in Misfat Al Abriyeen in Al Hamra has reached 39 per cent completion, with the initiative expected to strengthen the village’s tourism appeal and generate greater economic returns from the sector.
The project, implemented by the Al Dakhiliyah Governorate at a cost of more than RO 810,000, aims to upgrade public services, improve visitor facilities and preserve the heritage character of one of Oman’s best-known tourism destinations.
The development includes the construction of a glass bridge linking the village entrance to the valley, a pedestrian walkway with safety barriers, upgraded pathways, traditional lighting, directional signage and designated parking areas.
Shaikh Sulaiman bin Said al Azri, Wali of Al Hamra, said the project reflects cooperation between government entities, the private sector and the local community to promote sustainable tourism.
He said infrastructure and tourism services are continuing to be upgraded to improve the visitor experience and enhance Misfat Al Abriyeen’s appeal in local and international markets.
The next phase will focus on closer coordination among stakeholders to support additional tourism and development projects, reinforcing the village’s position as a model for sustainable tourism, he added.
Abdulrahman bin Saleh al Abri, a member of the Misfat Al Abriyeen Tourism Team, said the village offers guided tours, cultural and agricultural experiences; and visits to attractions including the Omani Honey House, Misfat Al Abriyeen Museum and Bait Al Siraj.
He said the village has eight licensed tourist lodges and also offers mountain camping and adventure programmes. Promotion continues through the Visit Misfat platform, highlighting the village’s heritage, natural attractions and tourism experiences. — ONA
